Which week are you on in your monthly cycle? CLICK a week below to read your Hormone Horoscope:
> WEEK ONE: Day 1 (first day of period) to Day 7
Estrogen rises: During this week of your cycle, you may get the urge to shop for items that help you do more of an active hobby you love, such as cooking supplies, photography equipment, Legos, gardening tools or a drum kit. Why? As estrogen rises and rises, it revs your mood, energy and optimism, which makes shopping more enjoyable and prompts a desire to accomplish more fun personal projects that get you physically moving. > WEEK TWO: Day 8 to Day 14 or ovulation (how to tell if you're ovulating)
Estrogen and testosterone rise till they peak: Chances are, at some point (and, perhaps, at many points) today you'll be feeling pretty darned good about yourself. As a result, you might brag about a recent achievement, post a new selfie or let the world know how great you are another way. Credit for your spike in self-esteem goes to soaring estrogen, which triggers a surge in mood-elevating brain chemicals that boost your confidence and mood. > WEEK THREE: Begins day after ovulation and lasts 8 days
Progesterone rises; estrogen and testosterone drop for half the week, then estrogen rises again: At some point today, you may realize that no amount of caffeinated tea, coffee or Red Bull can pull you out of the fatiguing tailspin you're in. Point a sleepy finger squarely at progesterone. This is a sedating hormone that has a more tiring effect the higher it climbs throughout your Week 3. Till it starts to drop off in your premenstrual Week 4, you can boost your energy as much as possible by getting the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep at night, basking in sunshine first thing in the morning (this resets your body's inner clock, making you perkier during the day), doing moderate exercise (intense enough to energize you, but not so much that tires you out) and avoiding anything that can sap your pep (such as dull conversations with people, TV and chamomile tea). > WEEK FOUR: Final 6 days of your cycle (Day 23 to 28 in a 28-day cycle)
Estrogen and progesterone plunge: On some days you're the dog; on other days you're the hydrant. Today could feel like a "hydrant" kinda day where people aren't respecting you the way they should, things aren't going as well as you'd hoped and problems seem to arise out of nowhere. Truth is, you're probably encountering the same number of irritating moments you do during other weeks of your cycle. However, a plunge in estrogen makes you more prone to focusing on what's going wrong rather than what's going right because it's dragging down mood-moderating brain chemicals, such as serotonin. To avoid falling into a total funk, try to think of at least one good thing that's happened today. Find out more in the Hormone Horoscope App Pro available at the App Store and Google Play.
